Jamecia Manuel
Pre-nursing student from Jackson, MS
Why did you decide to purse this health profession? I am the type of person who loves to help others in any way that I can. Therefore, I decided to pursue a career in nursing because that is what it is all about, helping others, making them smile, and making their day just a little bit better.
What is your major and why did you choose it? Allied Health Studies. I chose Allied Health Studies because even if I decide to change my career path, I would still have taken almost all the courses for any other health profession. It is a very versatile major.
How has the HPAO helped you? I believe HPAO helped me actually get serious about my career path. Before I began visiting HPAO, I was lost. After I started working there I learned something new about my career almost everyday. I was also exposed to things that I would soon be experiencing as well such as nursing school applications, acceptance letters, mock interviews and more. This gave me a sense of urgency to make sure I had everything I need in order at all times.
What is your most memorable experience working with the HPAO? Definitely working there. Everyday I went to work it was an uplifting experience. There was never a dull moment. Always laughs and always a lot of love in the room.
What are your career goals? I plan to become a traveling pediatric nurse and eventually a pediatric nurse practitioner.
What is your favorite restaurant in Oxford? Taylor Grocery
What are you happiest doing when not working or study? When I am not working or studying, I like to get a nice meal and go to a park or lake to read, eat, and relax.
