Pre-medical student from Reading, Massachusetts
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession? From my experiences shadowing and working as a nursing assistant I have learned that while there are a lot of smarts that go into being a doctor, a lot of your job is simply listening to people and making them feel heard. I love school and the sciences, but I also love helping people and being there for them. Becoming a doctor will allow me to be a forever student while also making a difference in the lives of others.
What is your major and why did you choose it? I am a Dietetics and Nutrition major. I chose this major because while working in the hospital at home I recognized that so many of the illnesses that people are treated for are a result of lifestyle and diet. I became really interested in how the choices we make in our diets impact our health, so I chose to study nutrition because I believe what I am learning will be really beneficial to me in my prospective career.
How has the HPAO helped you? The HPAO has been invaluable in my college journey so far. They have helped me with everything from advising to being a shoulder to cry on when I was struggling with homesickness and the transition to college.
What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO? My most memorable experience working with HPAO was the first day I went to the HPAO office to figure out what it was all about. I was really struggling trying to find a place on campus that felt like home, and everyone in the office made me feel so welcome and loved. HPAO is so much more than an advising office, they are the best cheering squad and support system.
What are your career goals? My career goal is to be a physician. I would like to work with the homeless and other populations who struggle to have access to healthcare. I would also love to work in public health in some capacity.
What is your favorite meal in Oxford? Proud Larry’s pepperoni pizza
What are you happiest doing when you are not studying? My favorite thing to do when I’m not studying is play with my two dogs, Maia and Duke!
