Khamariah Yelder-Anderson

Pre-medical student from Anchorage, Alaskaphoto of Khamariah Yelder-Anderson

Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?  I initially wanted to be a first-grade teacher so I knew my specialization needed to be something involving children. I have two siblings that are four and five and they’re really my why when it comes to why I would like to be a Pediatrician. My mom is a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse so whenever she chose to share some of her experiences I always felt like that was something I wanted to do.

What is your major and why did you choose it?  I am a biological sciences major because I would like to go to medical school and this degree also offers additional knowledge about science outside of medicine.

How has the HPAO helped you?  The HPAO has helped by exposing me to the different paths that are available to me and offering guidance during the pre-med process.

What are your career goals?  My career goal is to either go into Family Medicine or Pediatrics.

What is your favorite meal in Oxford?  My favorite meal in Oxford would have to be fried crawfish from Boure.

What are you happiest doing when you are not studying?  I am happiest when I am binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy or Scandal.
