Pre-physician assistant student from Lewisburg, TNLeah Hollingsworth

Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?  I chose to pursue the Physician Assistant profession because I love how involved it allows you to be with your patients. My favorite part about health care is creating genuine relationships with the people you care for.

What is your major and why did you choose it?  I am a psychology major and biology minor. I was undeclared for the entirety of my freshman year, but after taking introductory psychology with an amazing professor, I knew it was the major for me. I loved learning about how our brains work and about the influences that affect our behaviors. I also believe it will help me to connect more deeply with my patients in the future.

How has the HPAO helped you?  The HPAO has helped me to stay on track in so many ways. My advisor helped me arrange prerequisite classes into my schedule, find volunteer opportunities, and work out how to get patient care hours. Most importantly, she has been so supportive and encouraging from day one. Shoutout Kelli!

What is your most memorable experience working with the HPAO?  My most memorable experience has to be the day I told my advisor I wanted to go to Physician Assistant school. I was very anxious about the road ahead, but she reassured me that I was more than capable of doing what it takes. It gave me confidence, and it was such a big moment for me!

What are your career goals?  After shadowing and obtaining direct patient care hours, I discovered that I love pediatric and geriatric medicine. I would love to become a Physician Assistant in either of these fields in the future.

What is your favorite meal in Oxford?  My favorite meal in Oxford is a chicken quesadilla from South Depot.

What are you happiest doing when not working or studying?  When not working or studying, I am happiest spending time with friends and family. I love getting together with them to play sports and board games, watch movies, and eat.
