Baylee Avent

Pre-Physical Therapy Student from Southaven, MS

Why did you decide to pursue this health profession? I always knew I wanted to do something in the health care field, but wasn’t quite sure exactly what I wanted to do until I experienced the field of physical therapy myself. I have always been very active, so I fell in love with the idea of using movement as medicine! Physical therapy is about much more than just healing the physical body, it is also about improving one’s quality of life and self confidence!

Major: Exercise Science

Why did you choose this major? Exercise Science – this is the major that I felt like I would enjoy the most while also giving me the prerequisites and educational foundation I would need before entering PT school.

How has HPAO helped you on your pre-health journey? HPAO has been my saving grace throughout college! They’ve helped me with everything from telling me what prerequisites to take so I stay on track to calming me down and encouraging me when I need it.

What is your most memorable HPAO experience? The most memorable aspect of working with HPAO has been the reassurance and encouragement I receive every time I go in. No matter how stressed or down I am, my advisor always makes me feel better and reassures me that everything will work out like it’s supposed to!

What are your career goals? Become a physical therapist and hopefully work with geriatric patients!

What are you the happiest doing? I love traveling! This past November, I traveled to Ecuador and stood on the equator!

What is your favorite study spot? The Graduate lobby

What is your favorite meal in Oxford? Proud Larry’s – specifically their sweet potato fries!
