Elizabeth Basha
Pre-Medical Student from Clarksdale, MS
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession? I initially chose this health profession because my mom is a doctor and has always inspired me. However, after working in a ophthalmology clinic in high school and shadowing many doctors, I decided for myself to be pre-med. I loved witnessing the patient-doctor interactions and seeing the impact many doctors have on the health and general wellbeing of their patients.
Major: Biology
Why did you choose this major? I chose to major in Biology because I really enjoyed the subject in high school. I stuck with the major because the upper level clases required for my major interest me. I love learning about the functions behind different forms of life.
How has HPAO helped you on your pre-health journey? The HPAO has served as a comfort and a reliable resource since my freshman year. Whenever I had a question that I desperately wanted answered, I found instant answers and consolation in the HPAO. I am forever grateful and can’t wait to strengthen my connection to this office and spread its purpose to other students.
What is your most memorable HPAO experience? Mississippi Day 2023 was a great experience where I could meet and interact with other ambassadors and talk to juniors in high school and answer questions that I remember having at that stage in life.
What are your career goals? I hope to one day become a physician that people can trust and serve the underserved.
What are you the happiest doing? Playing soccer, lifting weights, going to St. John’s, being outside, spending time with friends and family, and cooking, to name a few.
What is your favorite study spot? The 2nd floor or the outdoor balcony of the Honors College
What is your favorite meal in Oxford? Anything from Handy Andy’s, South Depot, or El Agave
