Health Professions Advising Office (HPAO)
University of Mississippi

Meri Parker Pigott

Pre-Dentistry student from Saltillo, MS

Why did you decide to pursue this health profession? I knew I wanted to do something in the health field, but I wasn’t sure what. My dad is in the medical field, and when I was growing up I witnessed him having to take call a lot; he didn’t really have a say over his schedule. I wanted to pursue a career where I would have a say in this- so I chose dentistry. I more specifically chose cosmetic dentistry because of its artistic aspect. I feel that this is the area in dentistry that I will succeed in most.

Major: Art

Why did you choose this major? I chose to be an art major because ever since I can remember I have had a passion and skill for art. Furthermore, I even have my own art business. I wanted to choose a major that would appeal to my strengths and that I would truly enjoy.

How has HPAO helped you on your pre-health journey? HPAO has helped me get informed about many different clubs and organizations on the Ole Miss campus and get involved with these. My heath professions advisor has also helped me navigate my schedule for the next four years. At first, I was unsure how I would manage achieving all of my art credits alongside my credits for dental school, but Dr. Taylor assured me that it could be done and helped me plan my schedule accordingly.

What is your most memorable HPAO experience? My meetings with Dr. Taylor. He is very welcoming and helpful; I feel that he truly wants his students to succeed in all of their endeavors.

What are your career goals? I hope to become a cosmetic dentist with my own practice.

What are you the happiest doing? I love to hangout, eat, and talk with my friends at the DG house.

What is your favorite study spot? My kitchen counter at home

What is your favorite meal in Oxford? The power bowl from Volta! (add pork slovaki:))
