Anna Richie
Pre-Nursing student from Meridian, MS
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession? I come from a family with a medical background, and have always had an interest in anything related to medicine. One of my uncles is an ER nurse and the other is a flight nurse. In high school, I was in HOSA which allowed me to shadow different health professions where I fell in love with nursing. I admired the hard work and dedication that nurses possess and wanted to be apart of that community one day.
Major: Allied health Studies Pre-Nursing Society
Why did you choose this major? My major is Allied Health Studies, and I chose to pursue this degree in order to give me a general background in different areas such as psychology and nutrition before going into the nursing field. I am doing the 4+1 route to give myself a better background in the health field give to mature since nursing an extremely serious job.
How has HPAO helped you on your pre-health journey? HPAO has helped me in choosing what major and route worked best for me and my needs. I learned that the Allied Health Studies major worked best because it gave me a general background in different health areas as well as give me room to fit in all my nursing pre- requisites. They gave me all the information I needed and gave their advice but ultimately it was my choice to chose what I wanted my major to be. I really appreciate their willingness to help in any way possible and guide you in the right direction.
What is your most memorable HPAO experience? Making my schedule with Dr. Bilbo is my most memorable experience because he made me feel extremely welcomed the beginning of freshman year.
What are your career goals? Ultimately, I want to work as a Nurse Anesthetist after working in nursing for one to two years. After working as a Nurse Anesthetist for multiple years and gaining experience, I would like to travel to other developing countries and practice medicine for those who cannot afford medical treatment. This is a big aspiration of mine, and I wish to accomplish in my lifetime.
What are you the happiest doing? I enjoy going to the gym, going on walks outside with my friends, listening to music or reading. However, in all honesty, I do not have that much free time, so normally I am either studying or in the gym.
What is your favorite study spot? I love studying in the grove on a sunny day or on the honors college patio. A good spot if you need complete silence is the dungeon in the honors college or the library.
What is your favorite meal in Oxford? My favorite meal in Oxford is steak tacos from South Depot.
